Remember the good old days when you would roll up to the drive-in restaurant and order a burger from the carhop in your ’57 Chevy?
Me neither.
Lucky for us, this weekend we can get a glimpse of days gone by at the 8th annual Capitola Rod and Custom Classic Car Show in the Capitola Village.
The car show will feature hundreds of vintage and classic cars, all painstakingly restored to their former glory. Not only does the show offer a chance to see rare classic cars, it also provides an opportunity to speak with the car owners, who often have years of fond memories and stories to share about these beauties.
The lineup of cars varies from year to year but remains consistent in its diversity. Expect to see hot rods, muscle cars, custom built cars, roadsters, and vintage classic cars.
From the first year of the event, the Capitola Car Show has been a big hit, not only because of the cars, but also because of its unique venue.
There aren’t many places you can go to view custom and historic cars and also enjoy an unobstructed view of the Monterey Bay. The Esplanade and surrounding area are closed to traffic for the event. That simple change to the Village makes for a leisurely stroll through all the magnificently prepared cars.
While the cars are the main attraction, there will also be live music, vendor booths, and the charm of the Capitola Village to complete the scene. The Capitola car show runs from 9:00 – 5:00 on Saturday, and 9:00 – 2:00 on Sunday.
Visitors on Saturday afternoon will be treated to oldies music, performed by a live band on the Esplanade Park stage.
The event was created and is staffed by the members and volunteers of the Capitola Public Safety & Community Service Foundation. The Foundation provides assistance to the Capitola Police Department to enhance public safety within the City of Capitola.
The Capitola Car Show is one of the Foundations’ two major annual fundraisers. The second is a golf tournament held in October. This year’s tournament will be held at Seascape on Friday, October 11th.
All the proceeds from the show are directly infused back into the community through the public safety and community service program’s the Foundation supports.
It doesn’t matter if you are a car aficionado or just like to enjoy the beach. Car Show weekend allows you to enjoy Capitola Village at a more enjoyable pace without all the traffic on the Esplanade.
