It used to be that Downtown Santa Cruz and the Capitola Village played host to all the best events and street fairs.
That’s about to change.
Pleasure Point is putting itself on the event map with the 1st Annual Pleasure Point Street Fair this Saturday, June 22.
The event will take place on Portola Dr. between 38th & 41st from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Locals should note that Portola will be closed to traffic between 38th & 41st from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
What to Expect
Pleasure Point is the often underrated jewel of the east side. It’s a tight knit community that is well deserving of their own street fair. But since this is the first Pleasure Point Street Fair, what should you expect?
Well, from what we’ve learned, it’s safe to expect a whole lot of awesome.
Here are some of the things you’ll find at the Pleasure Point Street Fair:
Live Music by The Mermen, The Spell (featuring Nadia Lewis), and The Shapes and Stock Shot. The stage will be set up near 41st Ave.
Skate Contest – Here’s something you aren’t likely to find at many other street fairs. The skate contest is the 5th annual contest by Santa Cruz Boardroom, and will run all day long and will have prizes and a raffle.
Jimbo Phillips – Well known local artist Jimbo Phillips (who created the Pleasure Point Street Fair logo) will be on-hand signing autographs. Look for him in the Pleasure Point Business Association booth, the first space near 41st & Portola, across from the stage. You’ll also be able to pick up a T-Shirt with Jimbo’s Pleasure Point Street Fair logo from the PPBA booth.
Over 50 Vendor Booths – Booths will feature clothing, art, jewelry, crafts and more from local artists. There will also be some tasty treats:
- Penny Ice Creamery
- Santa Cruz Shave Ice
- Yogizmo Yogurt
- New Leaf Market (serving pulled pork sammies)
- Canton Restaurant
- a Beer Garden!
- and many more
KSCO radio will also be at the event, as will Mr. Twister, the balloon animal clown who you’ve likely seen downtown. Mr. Twister will be creating his signature balloon animals for the kids all day long.
The event is sponsored by the Pleasure Point Business Association and proceeds for the event benefit the Ocean Seed Project, a Pleasure Point non-profit which offeres educational and inspirational programs for at-risk and disadvantaged youth.
Admission is free, so come on out and bring the whole family.
