The 9th Annual Capitola Rod and Custom Classic Car Show is pulling into the Capitola Village this weekend.
Saturday June 7th, and Sunday June 8th, the Esplanade in the Capitola Village will be full of roadsters, coupes, classic cars, hot rods and pretty much any sort of cool car you can imagine.
The event, which is hosted by the Capitola Public Safety and Community Service Foundation, will feature a whopping 300 cars.
Each car is a labor of love, and a big part of the fun of this event, aside from getting a close look at so many beautiful cars, is being able to stop and chat with the owners.
If the cars alone aren’t enough, there are also raffles throughout the weekend, live music on the bandstand, and all the charm of the Capitola Village to take in.
This year also mixes a bit of the old with something new. Or, more accurately, someone new. Tony Gaulda, a 14 year old sprint car racer will be at the event signing autographs Saturday and Sunday. Racing fans can also expect to see a number of race cars at the event, thanks to new platinum sponsor, Pick N’ Pull Auto Parts.
Raffle prizes include two night stays with Beach House Rentals, dinners at local restaurants and a cruise on the Chardonnay II.
Saturday, June 7
Saturday’s event kicks off at 9 am with a picturesque cruise from the Santa Cruz Wharf to the Capitola Wharf. The procession will be led by classic fire trucks and police vehicles.
Starting at 10 am, the Capitola Village is filled with 300 (three hundred!) vintage and classic beauties.
Here’s what to expect on Saturday:
- Wharf to Wharf Cruise: Starts at 9 am at the Santa Cruz Wharf
- Sock Hop with the Sparkletones from 2 pm -5 pm at the Bandstand
- Raffle Times: 11am & 3 pm
- Tony Gualda autograph signing: 1 pm – 2 pm
- Awards: 4 pm
Sunday, June 8
Sunday brings more old fashioned fun to the village as those same 300 cars fill up the Esplanade. Here’s what is on tap for Sunday:
- Tony Gualda autograph signing: 11 am – 12 pm
- Raffle Time: 12 Noon
- Awards: 1:00 PM
- NASCAR exit with police escort:2:00pm
