The highlight for many this weekend will be the 33rd annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off and Festival at the Boardwalk, but that certainly isn’t the only fun event in town over the next few days.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour makes its way to Santa Cruz, the Warriors take the court on Friday night, and the legendary B.B. King takes the stage at the Civic Auditorium on Saturday night.
You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a worthy cause (with the Derby Girls), and celebrate the release of a new CD by a hot up-and-coming local band.
Here are our picks for the best events this weekend:
Ted Holladay Roast
When: Friday, 2/21
Event Santa Cruz presents a roast of local designer Ted Holladay on Friday night at the Verve Roastery. I don’t know Ted personally, but I’ve seen his designs (they’re amazing), and I’ve seen his hair (it’s big), and I imagine this event is going to be a blast.
If you want to learn a bit about Ted Holladay prior to the event then check out this recent article from the Sentinel.
This is a free event. Get more info here.
Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour

The Banff Mountain Film Festival at the Rio Theater begins Friday at 7:00 pm and runs through Sunday. Unfortunately tickets for the event are already sold out. If you were lucky enough to get tickets then you’ll be treated to films that capture the spirit of outdoor adventure.

At 4:00 awards for the best chowders will be announced. While the clam chowder is the main attraction, in typical Santa Cruz fashion, many of the contestants cook and serve up their chowder while wearing wacky costumes. It’s sure to be a fun and delicious event.
