This weekend is all about competition and causes…and competitions for causes.
Our Santa Cruz Warriors play two home games this weekend and fundraisers include the Santa Cruz Polar Plunge, the 6th annual Trivia Challenge, a 70s Disco Dance Party, and even a Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament.
So, pick a cause, have some fun, and enjoy the weekend!
Trivia Challenge
When: Friday, 2/27 from 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
How Much: Spectator tickets are $5 in advance, $10 at the door
The 6th annual Trivia Challenge will take place on Friday evening at the Civic. Join in and test your trivia skills, or just come as a spectator. Either way, your presence will benefit senior programs at the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County.
Santa Cruz Warriors vs. Westchester Knicks
When: Friday, 2/27 at 7:00 pm
Where: Kaiser Permanente Arena
How Much: $17 – $34
This is the first of two home games this weekend for the Warriors. Come cheer on the Warriors as they try to nudge their way closer to first place in the western division.
70s Disco Dance Party & Fundraiser
When: Friday, 2/27 from 7:00 pm -11:00 am
Where: Cocoanut Grove
How Much: $40
Dust off those bell bottoms and boogie down to the Cocoanut Grove on Friday night for a disco dance party fundraiser. The fundraiser benefits Second Harvest Food Bank, the Boys & Girls Club, and Big Brothers & Big Sisters.
Zeppelin Live (formerly Heartbreaker) – Dazzling Led Zeppelin Tribute
When: Friday, 2/27 at 8:00 pm
Where: Don Quixote’s International Music Hall
How Much: $15-$17
Imagine seeing Led Zeppelin play all their hits live in an intimate venue in the Santa Cruz mountains. Now imagine the next best thing.
Zeppelin Live is a Zeppelin cover band which has been recreating the legendary band’s greatest hits for over a decade.
Teen Nite: What the Cruz?! Connect with Your Community.
When: Friday, 2/27 from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Where: MAH
How Much: Free
Join the MAH’s teen program, Subjects to Change, to investigate what it means to ‘Connect with your community.’ This is a venue for teens to come together to share their ideas, make art, and listen to some great live music.
Harper Regan, by Simon Stephens
When: Friday, 2/27 Opening at 8:00 pm. Runs through 3/22.
Where: Jewel Theater
How Much: $28-$34
Harper Regan, by playwright Simon Stephens, is a story which explores loyalty, mortality and family. The opening show is this Friday and the play runs through March 22nd.
BRAZILIAN CARNAVAL 2015: Unidos Da Bahia w/ members of Olodum & SambaDá, Namorados Da Lua, Feathered Samba Dancers & Special Guest Pato Banton
When: Saturday, 2/28 at 9:00 pm
Where: Moe’s Alley

Bring some comfy dancing shoes because this is a party with all-star Brazilian bands, and the fun lasts until 1:00 am.
2015 Santa Cruz Polar Plunge
When: Saturday, 2/28. Registration at 10:00 am, Plunge at noon.
Where: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
How Much: $125
Grab your funkiest costume and head down to Main Beach on Saturday morning for the Santa Cruz Polar Plunge. This event is a benefit for Northern California and Nevada Special Olympics programs.
Rock Paper Scissors Tournament for PV Shelter (18 and older)
When: Sunday, 3/1 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Where: Heritage Hall, Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds
How Much: $25
Think you’ve got what it takes to compete in the first ever Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament in Santa Cruz County? I hope so. After all, it’s rock-paper-scissors. The game which has solved countless disputes and always seems to be accompanied by the question, “Best two out of three?” is now coming to the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds as a full fledged tournament. Live music by local band, Coffee Zombie Collective. Proceeds benefit the Pajaro Valley Shelter Services.
