With Saturday being the first day of summer you’ll likely want to head outdoors to soak in the beautiful Santa Cruz weather.
Lucky for all of us, there are plenty of great options for getting outside and having some fun this weekend. We’ve got Woodies on the Wharf, the Pleasure Point Street Fair, an Art & Wine festival, a garden fair, outdoor movies, the Tanniversary, and the Festival of Love…and that’s just on Saturday.

Free Friday Night Bands on the Beach – The Greg Kihn Band
When: Friday, 6/20 at 6:30 pm & 8:30 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

The weekend starts off with the second free Friday Night Bands on the Beach concert at the Boardwalk. The Greg Kihn Band takes the stage tonight.
20th Annual Woodies on the Wharf
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Wharf
How Much: Free
The always popular Woodies on the Wharf celebrates their 20th anniversary on Saturday. Come down to the wharf to see 200+ vintage woodies, enjoy live music, and maybe grab a bite at one of the restaurants on the wharf (or at least some gelato from Riva’s…Mmmmm).
The Garden Faire 2014
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Skypark
How Much: Free
Gardeners will be in heaven at this free event. The theme is “Growing During Times of Drought,” and there will be a focus on new ideas and gardening techniques aimed toward sustainability. There will be live speakers, interactive presentations, live music and activities.
Tanniversary
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 3:00 pm – 12:00 am
Where: Tannery Arts Center
How Much: Free
The Tannery is having an anniversary. You see what they did there? Come join the Tannery community as they open their studios (and homes) to the community. Enjoy art, live performances, dance workshops and more in this daylong event.
2nd Annual Pleasure Point Street Fair
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Pleasure Point
How Much: Free

Movies @ The Mission: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

Where: Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park

Join Captain Jack Sparrow at the Santa Cruz Mission as part of the Movies @ The Mission series. Films are shown outdoors at sunset. Bring your own lawn chair and set up in the Mission courtyard.

Santa Cruz Derby Girls Bout

Who do you root for when the Santa Cruz Derby Girls play the…Santa Cruz Derby Girls?
In honor of derby girl month, the Santa Cruz Derby Girls go head to head in a Black and Blue bout, proceeded by the Santa Cruz Derby Gromshells vs. the Los Angeles Junior Derby Girls.
13th Annual Surftech Jay Race
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 8:00 am – 6:30 pm
Where: Capitola Village
How Much: $40-$80
The 13th annual Jay Race is a paddleboard race in memory of Jay Moriarty. Races include a 12 mile long course, a 2 mile short course, as well as the Waterman Challenge and free kids races for youngsters 12 and under. Proceeds to to the Junior Lifeguard program.
The Purple Ones: 10 Piece Tribute to Prince
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 8:00 pm
Where: Don Quixote’s International Music Hall
How Much: $12
Want to see Prince perform live in the Santa Cruz Mountains? Yeah, sorry. That probably isn’t going to happen. But this is the next best thing! A 10 piece tribute band, in all their purple glory, recreate Prince’s hit songs.
12th Annual Bonny Doon Art & Wine Festival
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Where: Bonny Doon Equestrian Park
How Much: $55-$60
The Bonny Doon Art & Wine Festival features live music, beer and wine tasting, gourmet food, art exhibitions, and auctions in the Bonny Doon Equestrian Park.
The Festival of Love
When: Saturday, 6/21 at 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Where: San Lorenzo Park
How Much: Free
Everything is free in the inaugural Festival of Love. Free admission, free live music, free food, and no corporate sponsors. It’s all powered by love.
Santa Cruz Mountains Makers’ Market
When: Sunday, 6/22 at 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Mountain Community Resources Lot
How Much: Free
Venture up to Felton this Sunday for the Santa Cruz Mountains Makers’ Market. Enjoy live music while checking out art, jewelry, crafts, and more.
2nd Annual Santa Cruz River Run
When: Sunday, 6/22 at 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Where: San Lorenzo Park
How Much: $20-$55
The Santa Cruz River Run is a scenic run around the levee, with 1k, 5k, and 10k options. The River Run is presented by Santa Cruz Core and aims to create awareness of childhood hunger by partnering with Grind Out Hunger.
