2014 is just over a week old, but we’ve already been treated to some amazing summer-like weather, king tides, and one epic sunset after another.
So, what’s in store for those of us in Santa Cruz as we roll into the second weekend of 2014?
Well, fungus for one. If you have a serious love of mushrooms and all things fungus then the 40th Annual Santa Cruz Fungus Fair is bound to pique your interest.
Don’t worry if fungus isn’t your thing though (it isn’t mine – sorry fungus fanatics!). There are plenty of other great activities to keep you entertained this weekend.

40th Annual Santa Cruz Fungus Fair
When: 1/10 – 1/12
Just when you start to get worried that Santa Cruz might not have a fair for every conceivable subject, along comes the Santa Cruz Fungus Fair to put you at ease.
Celebrate 40 years of fungus at this year’s Fungus Fair, which runs Friday through Sunday at the Louden Nelson Community Center.
Free Friday at the Seymour Center
When: Friday, 1/10
Come out to the first of 6 Community Free Friday’s offered by the Seymour Center in 2014. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy all that the Seymour Center has to offer, free of charge.
Warriors vs. Maine (Superhero Cape Night!)
When: Friday, 1/10
Cheer on the Santa Cruz Warriors as they take on the Maine Red Claws Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
All fans in attendance for the Friday night game will receive a Santa Cruz Warriors Super Hero Cape! Capes are provided courtesy of Testorff Construction.
Santa Cruz Antique Faire
When: Sunday, 1/12
The Santa Cruz Antique Faire takes place on the second Sunday of each month in Downtown Santa Cruz.
