Most people will spend this weekend gearing up for Turkey Day, but if you find yourself with some free time, there’s still plenty to do in the Santa Cruz area.
Here are our picks for this weekend’s best bets.
Santa Cruz Warriors vs. Austin
When: Friday 11/22 and Sunday 11/24
It’s NBA Development League Santa Cruz Warrior’s second season playing at Santa Cruz’s Kaiser Permanente Arena, and already they’ve found a huge community of fans — perhaps because of some of their exceptional players. This weekend, you’ll have two chances to see them in action for yourself against the Austin Toros.
UCSC Orchestra Concert
When: Friday 11/22
Does your musical taste skew more classical? Feel like you need some refinement in your life? If so, this Friday’s orchestra performance at UCSC, which will feature pieces from Schubert and Mozart, is just the thing for you.
Planet Cruz Comedy at The Rio
When: Saturday 11/23
Santa Cruz is no New York City, but you can still catch some great live comedy on a Saturday night. Not sure if you’re willing to shell out the eighteen bucks? Check out some of Planet Cruz Comedy’s comedy minutes before committing. Chances are you’ll be chuckling by the thirty second mark.
The Green at The Catalyst
When: Sunday 11/24
The Green are one of Hawaii’s most popular reggae bands, making them a natural fit in Santa Cruz. The mixture of mellow beats and sharp political lyrics on tracks like “Wake Up” are a winning combination, and the smooth vocals in songs like “Love” will make for a great concert date.
