We’ve lined up events to kick off the beginning of a fantastic secret summer season in Santa Cruz County!  Watch a train robbery, fiddle around at a festival of fiddles or even attend a local wine country tour and so much more.

Friday

Alasdair Fraser’s 36th Annual Fiddle Extravaganza

When: 8/30 at 8:00 pm 
Where: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
Cost: $21.50 – $27.50; Children 8 and under Free

Valley of the Moon Fiddle School presents an extravaganza of fiddles, fiddles and more fiddles! Indie-Award winner, Alasdair Fraser and over 200 musicians and performing artists will be filling the auditorium with music, song and dance for an evening of celebration of the classic instrument.

Papa Doo Run Run

When: 8/30 at 6:30 pm & 8:30 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Cost: Free

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk FREE Bands on the Beach concert series comes to a season end with a performance from this favorite local band featuring their rendition of hits from the Beach Boys and other classic and surf rock tunes. Come out for a summer celebration that will keep you singing and dancing long after summer is over!

Movies at the Beach

When: 8/30 at 7:30 pm or dusk
Where: Esplanade Park
Cost: Free

Did someone say FREE movies at the beach? Well what are you waiting for? Gather the kids and head out to Esplanade Park for a free family movie night. This week’s movie is family favorite “Despicable Me”.  Bring a picnic dinner, chairs, blankets and don’t forget your jacket. Movie begins at dusk.

THE BIG EASTSIDE BLOCK PARTY

When: 8/30 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Where: Pono Hawaiian Kitchen & Tap Parking Lot
Cost: $3 at the door

It’s a party on the Eastside and you’re invited! Bring everyone you know for an evening of music, food, drinks, vendors and even baby goats! Who can resist baby goats? Vendors include local food trucks, craft breweries, shave ice, art, local recreation and so much more for the entire family. RSVP is required.

ROARING CAMP: GREAT TRAIN ROBBERIES

When: 8/31 – 9/1 from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm
Where: Roaring Camp Railroads
Cost: $23 – $32

You’re taking a leisurely ride on the Redwood Forest Train to Bear Mountain when suddenly, you find yourself back in the 1880s when notorious outlaws were scoping out the railroads and famed lawmen were setting the traps to catch them. Shootouts and wild west fun at this fun family event.

THE BARRELS OF CORRALITOS

When: 9/1 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Where: Corralitos Wine Trail
Cost: $25 – $75

Take a tour of six local wineries on the Corralitos Wine Trail. Wine tastings, barrel samples, live music, food for purchase and much more to be found along the beautiful Corralitos countryside. Tasting kit includes tastings at all six featured wineries and a commemorative wine glass.

CIRCUMFERENCE FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE

What: MUSIC AND ART FESTIVAL AND CONFERENCE
Where: Tannery Arts Center
When: September 7 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm

What is Circumference? It’s a live music event and festival and a stage for local musicians and visual artists to showcase their art. It’s a celebration of diversity, music and arts for the community. It’s also a fundraiser! A portion of every ticket goes to Santa Cruz County Alliance for Arts Education that provides art education for local K-12 students.
