With a break in the rain and the sun setting an hour later, it’s the perfect time to come out of hibernation and see what’s going on in Santa Cruz County this weekend!

They’re baaaack! The Santa Cruz Derby Girls kick off their 2019 season with a Derby Doubleheader at the Civic this Saturday. We’ll be in attendance and hope to see you there!

MCT’s “Four Old Broads”

When: Opens 3/15 and runs through 4/7
Where: Park Hall
Cost: $17 – $20

A hilariously fun performance about four residents of an assisted living home who find themselves in a mystery involving an evil nurse and patients disappearing to the “dark side”. Will they be able to go undercover and solve the mystery in time to be able to go on their “Sassy Seniors Cruise” vacation? Come and find out at this laugh-out-loud comedy from Mountain Community Theater!

Anthony Arya Acoustic Night

When: 3/15 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Where: Food Lounge
Cost: Free

Local music phenom, Anthony Arya, will play his acoustic blend of folk/rock/jazz at the Food Lounge. The local craft bar will be open for drinks and food for purchase will be available. All ages welcome!

Santa Cruz Warriors vs. Austin Spurs

Where: Kaiser Permanente Arena

Come out and support our very own Santa Cruz Warriors as they take on the Austin Spurs for a night of NBA G League action! The first 1500 fans to arrive will receive a free Warriors blanket.

Humble Sea Brewing 2nd Anniversary Party

Where: Humble Sea Brewing Co.

A 2-year anniversary calls for 2 days of celebrating. Friday night will be an intimate gathering featuring acoustic performances by The Coffis Brothers and The Rainbow Girls, Bruxo Food Truck’s paella, and exclusive anniversary beer. Saturday’s full day experience includes everything from radical beer releases to a goat petting zoo, with live music and amazing food vendors in between.

Santa Cruz Derby Girls Double Header

When: 3/15 at 4:30 pm & 6:45 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
Cost: $11 – $30

The Santa Cruz Derby Girls return for more hard-hitting action as the first event of the ’19 season is a double header featuring three of our local derby teams.

The Seabright Sirens take on Sacramento’s Bruin Trouble in the opener. The second game pits the Santa Cruz Derby Girls’ two top teams against each other in an all star match up.

Two games and three local teams…but that’s not all…

The Derby Girls will also be unveiling a new mascot at the game and are inviting fans to compete in a super fan contest during halftime.

The Fusion of Art & Physics Panel

When: 3/16 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Where: R. Blitzer Gallery

Art and science fuse together at this dynamic collaboration. Participating artists and physicists will be part of this panel discussion and the public is invited to attend and ask questions. All ages are welcome!

Brazilian Carnaval 2019 With Gabriel O Pensador

When: 3/16 at 8:00 pm
Where: Moe’s Alley
Cost: $40 Advance tickets

This event features Gabriel O Pensador, CaliSamba band, Pato Banton with The Samba Reggae Drummers, Samba dancers and more. A carnaval parade will begin at midnight. This performance sells out every year, so make sure you get your tickets soon!

This 37th annual party will be underway at noon for a day of corned beef and other food choices from Shockwave Food Truck. Specialty draft beers will be available for a full day of St. Patrick’s Day celebrating! The Bog Irish duo performs live music from 3pm to 6pm.
