Summer may be winding down and much of our population may be gearing to go back to school but that doesn’t mean the weekend fun stops.
This weekend we’ve got another great band at The Boardwalk to look forward to along with a comedy show, beer festival, some Shakespeare in the park, cultural events and more.

Friday
Foghat
When: 8/12 at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Cost: Free
Whether you remember the time when it was hit or know it from “Dazed and Confused,” who doesn’t love Foghat’s “Slow Ride?” Foghat will perform this along with their other chart topping songs like “Fool For The City,” “I’ll Be Standing By” and “I Just Wanna Make Love To You” at The Boardwalk’s free summer concert series. Choose to come to the first or second show or both.
Desi Comedy Fest
When: 8/12 at 8:00 pm
Where: Kuumbwa Jazz Center
Cost: $30 beginning August 1; $35 at the door
The largest South Asian comedy festival in America brings 12 comedians from many countries to perform their hilarious bits at Kuumbwa Jazz. Get ready to laugh!
SING ME HOME, Jewish Stories with Music
When: 8/12 – 8/13 at 7:30 pm
Where: Felix Kulpa Gallery
Cost: Suggested Donation $15 – $20 per seat
Erica Lann-Clark and Asaf Ophir met through storytelling and have worked tirelessly for over a year to put together this performance woven with Jewish stories and music. Reviewers have said the show will have you laughing and reflecting. It’s sure to be an enjoyable evening.
The Legend of Bonny Anne
When: 8/11 – 8/14 at 7:00 pm
Where: Vine Hill Elementary Amphitheater
Cost: Free Admission
If tales of pirates and tumultuous times of the past get your heart beating, you won’t want to miss this free outdoor performance about the most famous female pirate in history.

Futurebirds: A Benefit for the Soberanes Fire Relief Fund

Given our proximity, we have all been affected in one way or another by the tragic wild fires in Big Sur. Here’s an opportunity to help the Soberanes Fire Relief Fund and take in a Futurebirds show that was originally set to happen in Big Sur. The show must go on and it will this Saturday at Kuumbwa…get your tix!
Evening at the Adobe Open House
When: 8/13 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Where: Castro Adobe State Historic Park, Watsonville
Cost: Free
Step back in time to 1900 Mexican California as you explore this restored multi-family historic home. Visitors can prepare handmade tortillas in the cocina, enjoy music in the garden, and tour Santa Cruz County’s second state historic park.
The Beggar Kings
When: 8/13 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Where: Rio Theatre
Cost: $20 Gen. $30 Gold Circle
Ready to rock the roof at El Rio, the Beggar Kings, a large-piece band featuring a horns section and special guests will perform a mixture of top blues, funk and rock acts. These band mates have played with some of the greats, including the Doobie Brothers. We’re sure you won’t be able to stay in your seat for this.
Santa Cruz Shakespeare presents: Hamlet
When: 8/13 – 8/14 at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm
Where: The Grove at DeLaveaga Park
Cost: $16 – $52
Enjoy a summer afternoon or evening as the Grove at DeLaveaga Park transforms into the world of Hamlet. Santa Cruz Shakespeare adds a new spin to this tale of tragedy and death—Hamlet is a woman.
Researchers Anonymous Field Trip: East Morrissey neighborhood
When: 8/13 from 10:00 am to 11:30 pm
Where: The Corner of Surburbia Ave and Suburbia Court
Cost: Free
Local resident Dan Model will take you meandering through East Morrissey, explaining the neighborhood’s history, its people, its evolvement and its place in our community.
4th Annual Santa Cruz Socialites “Give Back Bash”
When: 8/13 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Where: Tannery Arts Center
Cost: $10 donation
In support of some local non-profits providing vital services to the community, Santa Cruz Socialites and Cosmo Chic SC have planned a fantastic lineup of activities and entertainment. California Beer Festival- Last Day!
When: 8/14 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
Where: Aptos Village Park
Cost: $10, Kids 12 and under are FREE
Come for the music lineup alone—Blues covers and tributes to Huey Lewis and Prince—then stay for the craft beer and great food. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, relax and enjoy the last day of the California Beer Festival.
