Many people around town haven’t yet gotten around to taking down all their spooky Halloween decorations, but the holiday season is already starting to show itself.
Here are our best bets for events in Santa Cruz this weekend, merry or otherwise.
Radical Craft Night at the MAH
This month’s 3rd Friday at the MAH, Santa Cruzans will wield knitting needles, glue, and scissors to make a radical statement.
With a focus on DIY repurposing and crafting the unexpected, this participative event will have a variety of workshops led by local experts. It’s guaranteed you’ll leave with a craft you’d never expected to make.

Civinomicon
Civinomicon 2013 will bring together local experts and citizens of Santa Cruz to collaborate on solutions to local issues.
Speakers include Fred Keeley (Santa Cruz County Treasurer), Zach Friend (Second District Supervisor), and Hilary Bryant (Santa Cruz Mayor).

Shakespeare Santa Cruz Holiday Show
This weekend marks the premiere of Shakespeare Santa Cruz‘s holiday show, It’s a Wonderful Life.

Bookshop Santa Cruz Birthday Sale
Bookshop Santa Cruz is turning 47, but you’re the one who’s getting a present. This Friday and Saturday, shoppers will receive 20 percent off everything in the store.
Friday’s sale only applies to Readers’ Club members, but Saturday’s offer is open to everyone. There will also be live music and a giant birthday cake on Friday night, so come on down and support your local bookstore.

Brett Dennen at the Rio
Keeping in mind that he’s toured with the likes of John Mayer an Death Cab for Cutie, it should be easy to imagine what Brett Dennen’s music sounds like — mellow and soulful, with romantic and bittersweet lyrics.
If that sounds like your bag, you can see him at the Rio this Sunday for twenty-two bucks.
