This weekend we celebrate a local icon at the Rio Theater and say goodbye (for now) to our favorite winged friends at Natural Bridges.
Basketball fans get a full Warriors weekend with two games and a special Warriors event on Saturday. It’s another packed weekend as we head towards Valentine’s Day. Enjoy!

Friday
Santa Cruz Warriors vs. Texas Legends
When: 2/9 at 7:00 pm
Where: Kaiser Permanente Arena
Cost: $26 – $85
It’s a full weekend of Warriors basketball, starting with a Friday night game against the Texas Legends. Golden State Warriors guard, Patrick McCaw, will join the hometown team and he first 1,500 fans in attendance will get a free rally towel courtesy of Cal Giant.
The Warriors weekend continues Saturday with Coaches for Kindness, an event with head coach Aaron Miles at Bookshop Santa Cruz. Finally, the Warriors will finish out the weekend with another home game on Sunday.
All About Theatre Presents Footloose the Musical

Romance in the Redwoods

Love is in the air…banana slug love, that is. Spend some time falling in love with nature as you stroll through the redwoods and learn how Big Basin’s plants and animals get it on.
A Valentine for Wallace Baine
When: 2/10 from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm
Where: Rio Theater
Cost: $10 in advance/at door
After spending decades celebrating the arts community in Santa Cruz County, it’s Wallace Baine’s turn to be celebrated. Expect an outpouring of love and an entertaining evening as local artists, musicians, and more pay tribute to a local hero.
KPIG Valenswine Lovefest
When: 2/10 at 8:00 pm
Where: Michael’s on Main
Cost: $10 adv./$12 door Dance – ages 21 +
Talk about a match made in hog heaven! KPIG’s Valenswine Lovefest features Taylor Rae and Jesse Daniel rocking the house with their signature sounds of Soul & Roll and Honky-Tonk. Make it dinner and a concert by reserving a table—Michael’s on Maine’s Valentines menu will be available Feb. 9 – Feb. 14
Cupid’s Gift – Santa Cruz Baroque Festival
When: 2/10 at 7:30 pm
Where: UCSC Music Center Recital Hall
Cost: $25 – General; $22 – Senior; $10 – Youth/Student
International star soprano Elizabeth Hungerford returns to the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival to enchant listeners with simple songs of romance and love. She will be accompanied by Hideki Yamaya on 10-course Renaissance lute and Linda Burman-Hall playing the harpsichord and virginal.
Migration Festival
When: 2/10 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Where: Natural Bridges
Cost: Free
It’s that time of year again, when we bid a temporary farewell to the monarchs. Celebrate the migration of our beloved monarchs as well as whales, birds, and many other species at this family-friendly event. There are a ton of games and crafts for kids to enjoy, educational booths and displays, and live music from the nature-loving 5M’s Band. Pack a picnic or purchase one there, and save room for habitat cake!
Sensation: An Evening of Sensory Exploration
When: 2/10 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Where: Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History
Cost: $12 General Admission / $10 Museum Members
The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History invites you on a journey of sensory exploration this Saturday. You can trick your taste buds with Miracle Berries, play tactile games and experience a sound art installation by local artist, Yolande Harris.

Contra Cruz! Double Feature Contra Dance

Cost: Suggested admission donation is $22 regular, $12 for full-time students w ID card
Bring a partner or come alone for a day of New England folk dancing fun! Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. In fact, there’s a free lesson a half hour before the event begins. Check out a video introducing contra dancing here.
Santa Cruz Warriors vs. South Bay Lakers

What’s in Your Heart?
When: 2/11 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Where: Museum of Art and History
Spend a couple of hours creating art with your loved ones at this special family Valentine’s Day art event presented by Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services. Local artists will be on hand to help inspire your creative expression in response to the question, “What’s In Your Heart?” Afterwards, your art will be displayed at the museum for the day.
